The experiment GAMMA
performs nuclear structure studies in nuclei in the Z ~ 50 region
using existing instrumentation like PRISMA
and GASP
at the National Laboratory of Legnaro.
The physics program
includes the following topics:
Mixed-symmetry states in the framework of the interacting boson model;
Isospin symmetries and n-p pairing;
Critical points and phase transitions between different nuclear shapes.
The GAMMA experiment also takes part to the
development of new instrumentation for gamma-ray spectroscopy within
the European collaboration AGATA.
