Arriving by plane - How to reach the town center...

...from Florence Airport
The most convenient way coming by plane is to arrive directly at the Florence International Airport "Amerigo Vespucci".
A frequent shuttle service (Volainbus - 20 min ride - timetable) connects the airport with the Florence main train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella). Tickets (fare €4.00 one way) may be purchased on board or at the departure station. For more info go here.
The taxi-ride fare from the airport to the town center is about €15.00 one way.

...from Pisa Airport
If you arrive at the International Airport "Galileo Galilei" in Pisa (80 km), the most convenient way to reach Florence is either by train or by coach.
A railway terminal (Pisa Aeroporto) is located just outside the departures hall. Ten trains per day (45 min ride) connect Pisa Aeroporto with Firenze Santa Maria Novella. You can check the timetables on the official railway company website (Trenitalia). Tickets (fare €4.95 one way) may be purchased at the information office in the arrivals hall. When leaving Florence, it is possible to check in for some flights departing from Pisa at the air terminal located inside Firenze Santa Maria Novella station on platform 5.
A coach transfer service is also available (Terravision - 70 min ride - more info and timetable) between G. Galileo Airport and Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The ticket price is €10.50 one way and €16.50 round trip.

...from Rome Fiumicino
The closest big international airport is Rome Fiumicino ( Airport "Leonardo da Vinci").
A non-stop train service (Leonardo Express - 32 min ride - 30 min frequency - €8.80 fare) connects Roma Fiumicino to the Rome main train station, Roma Termini.
Fast and quite frequent trains (Eurostar - 1 h 36 min ride - €29.44 fare one way 2nd class, €42.35 fare one way 1st class) connect Roma Termini with Florence Santa Maria Novella. You can check the timetables on the official railway company website (Trenitalia).

Arriving by train

The Italian national railway company is Trenitalia. International trains travel between Italy and many European countries (for more info go here).
The most important train station in Florence is Firenze Santa Maria Novella (main station).
Firenze Santa Maria Novella is located in the center of the town. Many public transport buses cross the station area and connect the center of the town with the neighbourhoods. The hystorical center can be reached on foot from the station in about 10 min.

Arriving by car

If you are coming by car, you can reach the town center from several exits of the highways: Firenze-Nord, Firenze-Scandicci, Firenze-Certosa and Firenze-SUD for the A1 motorway and Firenze-OVEST for the A11 motorway. In order to reach the campus location the only convenient exits are Firenze-NORD from the A1 (Milano-Roma) highway and Firenze-OVEST (the end of the motorway) for the A11 (Firenze-Pisa nord) highway; after the exit you have to follow directions to Sesto Fiorentino, which is the village where campus is located, and/or to Polo Scientifico e Tecnologico.

Arrivare con la macchina

Se venite in auto, il centro città può essere raggiunto da diverse uscite delle autostrade: Firenze-Nord, Firenze-Scandicci, Firenze-Certosa e Firenze-Sud per l'Autostrada A1 e Firenze-Ovest (cioè la fine dell'autostrada) per l'Autostrada A11. Al fine di raggiungere il campus le uscite convenienti sono Firenze-Nord per la A1 (Milano-Roma) e Firenze-Ovest per la A11 (Firenze-Pisa Nord) . Dopo l'uscita seguite le indicazioni per Sesto Fiorentino, che è il paese dove è situato il campus, e/o per Polo Scientifico e Tecnologico stesso.

Detailed information on how to reach the campus

The Polo Tecnologico e Scientifico, where there are both the Physics Department and the INFN Section of Florence, is located between the Osmannoro zone and the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino. If you arrive from the A11 motorway, exiting at its end you are directly onto the junction leading to the Peretola airport. If you arrive from the A1 motorway, you can exit at Firenze Nord and go towards Florence, onto the same junction. Take then the first exit (Sesto Fiorentino) and, keeping to the right, follow the signs for Sesto Fiorentino or Polo Scientifico. If you arrive from Florence city instead, you are required to move towards the Novoli area, northwest of the center of the city. Follow the signs for the A1 or A11 motorways (or for the airport of Peretola, which is located at the beginning of the junction that leads to the motorways). About 1 km after the airport take the exit for Sesto Fiorentino, and follow the signs for this village and for the Polo Scientifico. After about 1 km along a straight you find the entrance of the campus on the right.

Informazioni dettagliate su come raggiungere il campus

Il Polo Tecnologico e Scientifico, dove si trovano sia il Dipartimento di Fisica che la Sezione INFN di Firenze, è situato tra la zona di Osmannoro e il Comune di Sesto Fiorentino. Se si arriva dall'Autostrada A11, uscendo alla fine dell'autostrada ci si immette obbligatoriamente sul raccordo che porta verso l'aeroporto di Peretola. Se si arriva invece dall'Autostrada A1 si può uscire a Firenze-NORD e proseguire verso Firenze, immettendosi sullo stesso raccordo. Prendere successivamente la prima uscita (Sesto Fiorentino) e, tenendosi a destra, seguire le indicazioni per Sesto Fiorentino o Polo Scientifico. Se si arriva da Firenze città è necessario dirigersi verso la zona di Novoli, a nord-ovest rispetto al centro della città. Seguire le indicazioni per le autostrade A1 o A11 (o per l'aeroporto di Peretola, che si trova proprio all'inizio del raccordo che porta verso le autostrade). Circa 1 km dopo l'aeroporto prendere l'uscita per Sesto Fiorentino e seguire le indicazioni per il paese e per il Polo Scientifico. L'ingresso per il campus si trova dopo circa 1 km, lungo una dirittura, sulla destra.
